Often women have some of the rare diseases for which they are never able to find out the right treatment. But Graves Disease is one of the rare diseases which is found in women but is quite manageable.

This autoimmune diseases is found to attack the thyroid. This small gland in the neck region in human beings is called the thyroid and is responsible for the T3 and T4 hormones that regulate the utilization of the energy in our body. The thyroid hormones are managed by the pituitary gland. This small gland in the human brain is the one that stimulates the thyroid hormone TSH and accelerates the process of thyroid making in the body.

In Grave’s disease, the immune system creates antibodies that give the impression of being TSH but in fact are not. Thus the thyroid hormone is produced more and this is called hyperthyroidism. This overactive thyroid activity in the body leads to other side effects like an increased heart rate, and an increased metabolism. Grave’s Disease is also related to the other disease affecting the thyroid gland – the Hashimoto’s Disease.

Grave’s disease inflicted people have trouble sleeping, a large goiter, a lot of irritability, increased sweat, a rapid heartbeat, tremors in the hand, incessant bowel moments, fatigue , weight loss and a lesser pattern of periods.

Sometimes Grave’s Disease also results in eye changes. The tissue behind the eyes gets swollen, and causes a lot of discomfort in both the eyes. Normally such eye problems are not seen in people having normal thyroid functions.

Grave’s Disease also causes a lot of reddening and thickening of the skins on areas like the feet and the shins. The disease is normally not serious and is always painless.

Symptoms

The Grave’s Disease symptoms are seen very gradually or sometimes suddenly. Sometimes people with the Grave’s Disease never show any symptoms at all.

Grave’s disease is found to affect women more than men. It normally starts after the age of 30. Normally family members who have had thyroid lead the other females in the family to contract the same. Grave’s Disease patients sometimes also get problems such as Vitiligo, rheumatoid arthritis which is a disease affecting the joints, Addison’s disease which affects the adrenal glands, and Type 1 diabetes which causes the blood sugar levels to be very high. Pernicious which is a disease that does not allow your body to absorb vitamin B12 and lupus a disease that spoils the skin, joints and the blood vessels?

Causes

Grave’s Disease is mainly caused due to genes, gender, stress, pregnancy and infection. Whatever the cause be it is seen that these can be identified and attended to. In fact, these days researchers are working to discover how the genes are involved and in what way we could cure them.

Treatment

When diagnoised out through the thyroid tests that you are a victim of Grave’s disease then it is better to go to the doctor and get yourself examined well and then increase the capacity to fight this disease.

Tests

Normally the tests taken for Grave’s Disease are the thyroid function tests, the radioactive iodine tests ad the Antibody tests.

The thyroid function tests ensures that a blood sample is tested for the amount of thyroid hormone in the body. This level T4 and the TSH become very important. So a very high thyroid level and a low level of TSH is a sign of overactive thyroid.

Radioactive iodine uptake or an RAIU tells us how much iodine is used by the thyroid gland. The higher the thyroid takes it shows that there is Grave’s disease in the patient.

The antibody test is to search for Grave’s disease related antibodies.

Treatment

Grave’s disease is then accordingly treated with antithyroid medicine, radioactive iodine, surgery and by making the patient aware of what he has to do.

Grave’s disease is one of the rare diseases found in women more and is not incurable or worrisome.

Home pregnancy tests detect pregnancy by diagnosing the presence of a hormone called hCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. The placenta of a woman starts secreting hCG almost immediately after the egg gets implanted into her uterus. You can expect most accurate results from home pregnancy tests done during the morning; this is because the hCG stays in more concentrated form in one’s morning urine.

What should you look for during a home pregnancy test? Put a drop of your urine on the testing device and wait for 5 minutes; you will see color bands or stripes appearing on the devices control section. Appearance of control stripe is the indicator of the fact that your test is in the right track. The device’s test section will inform you whether you have conceived or not. Appearance of a plus sign or even an extremely faint line on the test section is regarded as positive result. Women getting a faint line on the test section are advised to repeat the test after 48 hours. After a gap of 48 hours, the concentration of hCG in the woman’s urine might increase, which will result in appearance of a denser and darker line in the device’s test section.

There are certain home pregnancy tests that can detect even low hCG levels. The earliest phase, in which the test can start showing up accurate results, is around 5 days prior to the scheduled starting date of the next period or 7-10 days following an ovulation. However, these are only rough estimates. If the home pregnancy test taken five days before the scheduled starting date of your period comes up with negative results, it does not mean that you have not conceived. The negative result can also show up because you have done a test too early.

To make sure that the home pregnancy test is showing up accurate results, you must follow all the guidelines carefully and make sure that you are not using the test before time. Also, you must also check expiration date of your home pregnancy test device before using it.

Many women experience abdominal muscle aches even after delivering the baby. In some the pain lasts for only for a few days following the delivery; some on the other hand experience the pain for weeks or even months. Experiencing such muscle pains is normal for a new mother; however, even then such pains must be reported to the midwives or doctors for ensuring that onset of serious conditions can be avoided.

After birth pains in the abdominal muscles of a new mother occur with contraction of the uterus. The pain is generally maximum in intensity when the mother breastfeeds. However, within 3 to 4 days of childbirth, the pain starts subsiding gradually. However, as abdominal muscles of a woman get significantly weak and stretched due to the tension caused during the 40-weeks of pregnancy, the soreness in the muscles might take several months to go away. Intense muscular pain in the abdomen is more common in mother giving birth to the baby through C-section.

How will you know that you postpartum abdominal pain is indicating something abnormal? If it’s a normal pain, it will consistently improve with time; this stands true for both normal and cesarean birth. If you find that your pain is worsening with time, you have probably developed an infection. In such cases, the woman must consult her gynecologist or midwife immediately.

One way of bringing back the abdominal muscles to its normal condition after delivery is, belly binding. This procedure is practiced for centuries. The name used for the procedure may vary from one part of the world to the other, but the technique applied is more or less the same everywhere. Belly binding is a procedure that involves tightly wrapping the abdomen of a woman using a cloth immediately after she delivers a baby. This helps in keeping muscles of her stomach tight and she regains core strength faster.

Postpartum abdominal muscle pain can also be controlled using OTC pain relievers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen. The cesarean pains are generally managed with a combination of the above mentioned OTC medications and narcotics like oxycodone and hydrocodone. There are also certain herbs that helps in easing the pain; examples include black haw, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, cottonwood bark, cramp bark and motherwort. Each of these herbs can be used both as tincture and tea; however, you must consult your doctor before using any of these herbs.

We all know that applying some highlighter on our face can give us an instant glow; however the aftereffect of using these chemical based substances regularly can be quite severe. In this article, we have discussed how one can have a glowing face instantly using natural methods.

Take a pan and fill it with water; add some skin friendly herbs to it and heat the mixture. For people with normal skin, herbs like rosemary and lavender are recommended; if you have oily skin, peppermint or thyme will suit you the best and individuals with sensitive or dry skin should use lime or chamomile.

Once boiled remove the water from the heat and place your face over the pan for taking an herbal steam. Take the steam for 15 minutes; this will open up your skin pores and offer you a deep cleansing experience.

The next step involves skin exfoliation. You can prepare a homemade scrub for skin exfoliation. To prepare the scrub mix together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 2 tablespoon almond paste. Apply this mix onto your face and rub it in gentle circular motions. Continue the scrubbing for 2 minutes and then wash off your face using lukewarm water.

Mash a cool cucumber and apply it all over your face. Wait for ten minutes and wash the face using lukewarm water. Dab your face with a clean towel so that it gets completely dry.

The final step involves application of a gentle moisturizer onto the face. While applying the moisturizer massage your facial skin gently for promoting blood circulation.

Once the above steps are completed as directed, you will find your skin glowing. Now, application of minimum makeup will give you a perfect party look.

How much melanin you will have in your skin depends mostly on your genetics. However, the levels of melanin in our skin also get boosted naturally when our skin get exposed to the sun rays i.e. the ultraviolet rays present in it. Sun rays triggers the production of the brown pigment called melanin within our skin, which becomes even darker after being oxidized.

Melanin also acts as the natural defense system of our skin against the harmful ultraviolet rays. However, still there are many who are not fond of dark skin and look for ways to reduce the levels of melanin in their skin. It is possible to reduce skin melanin naturally; however, you must be patient for experiencing the results as the process takes time. Below, we have offered some tips for reducing skin melanin naturally.

If you want to get rid of the melanin of your skin, you must ensure that you remain indoors during daytime, particularly when the sun stays at the peak. Continuing this for several months will result in gradual decrease of the melanin levels of your skin. Depending on the extent of tan one is having, an individual might require a year’s time or even more than that to notice the effects of this remedy on his or her skin.

To decrease your skin melanin levels, you must wear clothes that cover your neck, legs and arms and wear shoes covering your feet while going out in the sun. It is also advisable to wear gloves, hats and sunglasses for protecting the face from UV rays.

Vitamins A, C and E are extremely effective in reducing skin melanin. Vitamin A’s synthetic form, Retin-A is used widely for exfoliating the hyperpigmented dead skin cells and promoting production of new cells. Vitamin C is classified as a tyrosinase inhibitor; as a result of this, topical application of this vitamin decreases production of skin melanin. Vitamin E cannot reduce melanin production directly, but is effective in reducing the hyperpigmentation caused by overproduction of melanin.

The term menopause describes the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle. When menopause occurs, the women do not experience ovulation anymore. The normal age of menopause is late 40s or early 50s. Menopause takes away the natural childbearing ability of a woman. However, with advancements in medical sciences, today, a woman can get pregnant even after menopause through artificial reproduction techniques. It’s true that postmenopausal pregnancy is a controversial topic; but it surly offers many women the change of having babies during the later part of their lives.

The only way through which a postmenopausal woman can get pregnant or give birth is in vitro fertilization or IVF. The process of IVF involves pacing of the fertilized egg into a woman’s womb. The process of fertilizing the egg with sperm is carried out in a laboratory setting or at a doctor’s clinic. A successful fertilization of the egg results in development of an embryo, which is then transferred into the uterus or womb of the woman. The body of a woman stops generating eggs after menopause; however her womb still stays functional. This allows her to become pregnant and deliver a baby through IVF. As women do not produce eggs after menopause, she will require another woman to donate her egg for becoming pregnant. As the egg has been donated by someone else, the woman carrying the baby will not have any genetic or biological connection with the fetus.

IVF is an extremely costly medical procedure. Its cost varies between $10,000 and $20,000 for every attempt. There are several instances when a woman fails to conceive after the first attempt, as a result of which a subsequent procedure in required increasing the overall cost of the procedure.

If you peep into your refrigerator, you will come across several ingredients that are beneficial for your skin. This stands true for individuals of all skin type. Two such ingredients are carrot and avocado. These items are not only offer significant health benefits when taken internally, but also possess excellent skin care benefits. You can prepare a facial mask using these two items as its primary ingredients. Beta carotene and antioxidants present in carrots along with the vitamin E content of avocados will effectively remove age spots from your skin improving its overall tone and texture.

The ingredients required for making this natural facial mask are: a large carrot, ½ ripe avocado, 3 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon olive oil (the cold pressed extra-virgin variety), ½ cup of heavy cream, a food processor or blender, a soft towel and a damp cloth.

Cook the carrot (peel it before starting the process) for fifteen minutes in boiling hot water. Once cooled, put it into a food processor blender.

ParaGard is one of the two IUDs or intrauterine devices approved by the FDA for being used for birth control. The other one is Mirena. According to results obtained in the past years, ParaGard is said to be 99.2% to 99.4% effective in preventing pregnancy. The other term used for ParaGard is copper IUD. This IUD is basically a T-shaped device consisting of a plastic frame, which gets inserted into the woman’s uterus.

How does ParaGard work? ParaGard works by inhibiting fertilization by stopping the sperm from reaching the egg; it helps in rendering the sperm inactive within the cervical mucus. In case an egg gets fertilized, the ParaGard does not allow the embryo to get implanted within the uterus.

Although the side effects of ParaGard are much less than the hormonal contraceptive pills, many women using this IUD complain about increased menstrual pain and vaginal bleeding. If you are experiencing similar side effects after insertion of ParaGard, report them to your physician. A more serious side effects of ParaGard is pelvic inflammatory infections, which generally occur within the initial 3 weeks following the insertion of the device. Some women also report side effects like puncturing of uterus and automatic expulsion of ParaGard; both these conditions are extremely serious and needs to be attended medically without delay.

The cost of this IUD ranges between $200 and $300. Once you get a ParaGard inserted, it will stay functional for as many as 10 years. So, the money you are spending for buying the device is an expenditure you will be requiring to make once in every 10 years. The best thing about this contraceptive method is that it is reversible; when you wish to get pregnant, get it removed and within a few months you can conceive successfully and without any side-effects.
