Elucidated herewith are several celebs with breast cancer who have ably fought the disease and continue to be shinning beacons to all those people tackling the dreaded crab.

Cynthia Nixon

Initially, Nixon was reluctant in revealing details of a malignant tumor being identified in her right breast at the time of regular mammogram screening. Nixon garnered immense fame for donning the role of the dependable Miranda Hobbes in the’ Sex and the City’. Telling her side of the story following lumpectomy, radiation cancer therapy, Nixon spoke to New York Daily News about not wanting to be confronted by the paparazzi during her hospital visits and hence decided to stay mum. Nixon’s mom is also a breast cancer survivor.  She came to the decision of speaking out when she comprehended that by doing so she could be a source of motivation for other breast cancer patients. She is one of those celebs with breast cancer who is in remission and continues to serve as an envoy to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Sheryl Crow

The famed rocker spoke about being a live advert for early breast cancer diagnosis. During later part of 2006, Crow was scanned with dubious calcification present in both breasts during a routinely done mammogram. Following this identification, she quickly took the decision to delay her touring and underwent surgery and 7 weeks of radiation therapy, complemented by herbal tea intake and acupuncture. The rocker was engaged to ace cyclist Lance Armstrong parted ways about that time her breast cancer detection was confirmed. However, Crow with no family history of breast cancer, was able to evade chemotherapy since the cancer was identified in the early stages. A year later she lobbied Congress for funding studies probing into likely association in-between environment factors and breast cancer.

Tony Sopranos’s better-half on-screen, actress Edie Falco after being detected with breast cancer in 2003 at forty years of age, instantly decided to be covert about it. She never spoke a word about it during the 6 seasons HBO hit-series ‘Sopranos’ and silently underwent therapy and came out free from cancer and with a short hair-cut a year later.

Being wrongly diagnosed nearly skipped her chances of combating and defeating breast cancer and only when she opted to undergo testing for the second time did the physicians spot a lump in the left breast. She then went through partial mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. She has since then been appealing to women to believe more in their gut instincts while undergoing testing as doctors too could err.

Having to part with one or both of your breasts could be quite distressing for any woman. The ‘Samantha Who’ star Christina Applegate is one of those celebs with breast cancer who chose to remove both her breasts following breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, although cancer was detected in merely a single breast. She had affirmative test outcomes for the BRCA-1 gene mutation and opted for complete mastectomy to lower likelihood of relapse. Applegate’s mother has repeatedly survived breast cancer. She then underwent breast-reconstruction procedure later on.

Melissa Etheridge

Etheridge gave a rocking performance all bald-and-beautiful during the 2005 held Grammy awards following intense radiation and chemotherapy treatment after a lumpectomy procedure. She palpated a lump in her left breast while showering and her song ‘I Run for Life’ is a dedication to that tussle with breast cancer. The rocker has a strong family history of the disease with her dad, grand-mom and aunt all dying due to cancer.
